Tanker fire is something that triggers tremendous alarm and concern, especially the massive type that occurred on Otedola bridge on Tuesday.
Before now, the bridge is becoming notorious for mishaps of different kinds leaving people to associate it with some kind of diabolism.
Tuesday’s incident undoubtedly left panic amongst both motorists and commuters, given the enormity, and its potential of reaching hitherto safe areas.
It turned out to be a 30-tonne gas truck that exploded and the impact left marks on buildings and some vehicles.
According to eye witnesses, the fire incident triggered an explosion and panic all around the area, some wondering whether there were heavy gunshots.
Mrs Tessy Orji, who commuted the road at about that time, said most passengers in the mini bus conveying them mistook the explosion for the sound of a gun.
“Some of the passengers were asleep but woke up when the explosion happened and there was panic inside the vehicle.

“Though I was not sleeping, but I was afraid due to the sound that came”, she stated.
It however took the explanation of the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, to stem speculations.
Oke-Osanyintolu said that LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team had moved to the scene and were getting the situation under control.
Otedola bridge has been in the news lately for incidents of the nature and a source told our correspondent that many people, caught unawares by the latest incident, were only reassured by the LASEMA response.
