Commissioner’s Death

What led to this commissioner’s death after he attended the State Executive Council meeting earlier in the day?

This is the question that has confronted some who have heard of the death even the people await a formal press release on the death.

Robert Ewa was until his death, the Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

Earlier on Wednesday, he was present at the state’s executive council meeting which was presided by Governor Bassey Out, only to be announced dead in the evening at the Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar, the state capital.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nsa Gill, said the late Ewa was active during the meeting, but later excused himself.

“Ewa died yesterday. He was present at the state executive council meeting. He even contributed during the presentation.

“A few minutes later, he excused himself and I think his driver drove him to the clinic. So we never knew that he went to a hospital.

“So it was from the hospital that he went to, that news came back to the governor that he had died.”

Gill said the governor received news of the commissioner’s death with shock, adding that a press release would be issued later.

The Eagle reports Ewa as reiterating recently to ensure Cross River State remained a leading tourism destination in the country.

The reiteration was in the wake of an on-the-spot-assessment which he undertook with a team to ascertain the sector’s level of preparedness to host global visitors during the last yuletide.
