Distressing News For Ex-Scotland Rugby Captain Stuart Hogg

There is a piece of distressing news concerning Ex-Scotland Rugby Captain Stuart Hogg, who plays for Montpellier of the French Top 14.

He is due for sentencing after he admitted to abusing his estranged wife, Gillian Hogg over the course of five years

Hogg retired from professional rugby in July 2023 but signed for Montpellier on a two-year contract last summer necessitating a return to the sport.

He made his test debut against Wales during the 2012 Six Nations Championship, before going ahead to represent Scotland at international level, last November 4, pleaded guilty to domestic abuse of his estranged wife .

He admitted shouting and swearing, tracking her movements and sending her messages which were alarming and distressing in nature.

He had also admitted breaching bail conditions including contacting the woman, and sending her up to 28 text messages.

When he appeared in court on December 5, Sheriff Peter Paterson handed him a five-year non-harassment order in addition to a £600, with an additional £40 victim surcharge.

He was to be sentenced on the domestic abuse charge in December but Sheriff Paterson deferred the sentencing to January 9.

The deferment was to enable the court establish whether a community order with remotely monitored supervision can be imposed on Hogg.

Prosecutor Drew Long said the couple moved to Exeter in 2019 with their three young children, all under three, but Hogg’s “behaviour deteriorated” as he went out partying.

Hogg retired from professional rugby in July 2023 but last summer it was announced he was returning after signing for Montpellier on a two-year contract.

Stuart Hogg, was a former Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs player.
