Following Sergino Dest’s ACL injury while on loan from Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven has reportedly decided against signing him to a permanent contract.
The American international has made 36 appearances and two goals since joining the Dutch powerhouses on a season-long loan with a permanent option last August. Nevertheless, the full-back’s stellar season was cut short in April due to an ACL injury, and as a result, according to Dutch newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad, the 23-year-old will not be joining the Eredivisie team long-term at this time.

The report adds that Dest, who is out of contract at Barcelona and may never play for the Spanish giants again, could join PSV permanently next year, providing his recovery goes well. The United States international will be able to talk to teams about a possible move from January 1, 2025, as he enters the last six months of his contract with Barcelona. Moreover, the Dutch league champions would be open to signing him in the winter transfer window or as a free agent in the summer of 2025.
Prior to his injury, PSV and Barcelona supposedly discussed the defender’s summer transfer to AC Milan, where he appeared in 14 games last season. But due to his injury, the former Ajax player has had to temporarily put that on hold.
The American is undergoing a protracted recuperation process and might not return to competitive play until 2025. Without him, PSV, the league champions from last month, will play their final game of the season at home against RKC Waalwijk before going on the road to face Fortuna Sittard on Sunday.
