EPL Sets Date For Man City’s 115 FFP Trial Case

The Premier League (EPL) has set a date for Manchester City’s 115-charge Financial Fair Play case to be heard, but they will not be making that public.

The English national team, who are currently defending their title after winning a record triple crown in 2022–2023 are aware that they are facing tough questions off the pitch. In 2023, it was disclosed that City’s financial operations will be scrutinised after a five-year probe, with accusations stemming from 2009.

FFP sanctions have hurt other Premier League teams as well; this season, Everton has already been docked ten points. They’ve been told that they and Nottingham Forest are once again under investigation, and they’re getting ready to fight English football’s regulatory body in court once more.

Amidst the rule changes in August 2024, supporters at Goodison Park, the City Ground, and beyond Merseyside and the East Midlands have expressed doubts about their cases being expedited, questioning why teams like Chelsea and City seem to be able to spend as much as they want before anything happens.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters has sought to address that issue, but has stopped short of revealing when City’s date with destiny will come. He says “I can” understand the frustration of Everton and Forest fans, but added on City’s case: “There is a date but I can’t tell you when it is.”

City may be subject to a variety of penalties if it is determined that they violated the regulations or just partially followed them. Historically, penalties in the form of fines and point deductions have been the best course of action. Pep Guardiola’s team could receive a punishment that prevents them from competing for the domestic championship in the future.
