Another Points Deduction Imminent! Everton Expect Premier League Punishment 

Everton may be facing a second points deduction due to violations of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.

According to The Athletic, Everton and Nottingham Forest anticipate that their violations of the league’s profit and sustainability regulations will be brought to an independent commission. They will also probably be informed of any formal punishment taken on Monday. Nottingham Forest could now also lose points, while Everton, who was punished 10 earlier in the season, might now face a second point loss or a fine.

A club may lose up to £105 million ($134 million), or £35 million ($44 million), in a three-year period. It is anticipated that both Everton and Forest will resist any penalties.

Everton are already appealing their initial points deduction and the report states they are likely to cite the construction of their new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium as a major reason for the excess expenditure. Forest, by comparison, lost £61m over three seasons, lower than the £105m figure, although that is due to their participation in the Football League prior to their promotion. The key figure appears to be their £35m loss last season, which does exceed the Premier League’s limit.

It is really not feasible for any team to lose any points. Everton currently has 17 points, which puts them 17th in the Premier League standings. They lead Luton, who are in 18th position, by just one point, and if they were to lose another ten points, they would fall to 20th place, below Sheffield United, who have just nine points.

With 20 points, Forest, in contrast, is ranked 15th. They have four more points than Luton.

The two clubs will await the Premier League‘s official word. Then, both are probably going to mount strong legal defences against any action, especially if they are docked points.
