McTominay Clarifies Man Utd Dressing Room Chaos Under Ten Hag 

Scott McTominay says Manchester United’s players back Erik ten Hag and believes the atmosphere is not as bad as under his predecessors.

United, still in shock from their humiliating 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at home, has a tough week ahead of them starting on Tuesday with a Champions League match against Bayern Munich that must be won before travelling to Liverpool, their bitter rivals. After the team’s 12th loss of the season, Ten Hag’s status has come under more scrutiny, although McTominay maintains the team still supports the manager.

Following dressing room leaks, there have been hints of tension between the players and Ten Hag, which has been likened to confrontations between the team and prior United managers like Jose Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick. While Ten Hag claimed that the numerous injuries that United has had to deal with are the primary cause of their poor performance this season in comparison to his outstanding debut campaign, McTominay feels that the situation is not as dire as it was previously.

Speaking to reporters, McTominay said: “It is the players’ responsibility. We know that as well. We have big characters in the dressing room. It is not like the other managers when it has been toxic at times. Boys are firmly behind the manager. Players can get lost in translation, we just want to do well for the football club. It is as simple as that.”

When asked what the differences are between this season and last, the manager himself added: “We had a regular team [in 2022-23], not so many changes. Especially in our backline. That helps you. You get the routines in. We have to wait for that. I think it is personnel. We are not the only team. I see inconsistency from other teams in the Premier League.”

United have lost 12 matches in 22 matches in all competitions, as many as they lost over the entirety of the last campaign.

If United hopes to advance in the Champions League or make it into the Europa League, it must defeat Bayern Munich. They will move on to the Europa League play-off round if they win and Copenhagen’s match against Galatasaray concludes in a draw. If they lose, they will not advance.
