Luis Diaz Pays Tribute To Alisson After Scoring Twice Past Him

Liverpool teammates Luis Diaz and Alisson gave an enthralling embrace to the stunned crowd after Colombia’s victory over Brazil.

Diaz helped his nation defeat Brazil 2-1 in a World Cup qualifying match late in the second half by scoring twice in the span of four minutes. Even more emotional resonance was added to Diaz’s powerful performance considering the circumstances surrounding his father’s kidnapping. After his son was held captive by the rebel group ELN in Colombia for 12 days last week, Luis Manuel Diaz and his son were only reunited during the vacation. Diaz was seen hugging Alisson, his Liverpool teammate and the Brazil goalkeeper for the game, after the final whistle.

Diaz singled out Alisson’s support towards him during the ordeal: “He’s a great human being. I really respect him. He was very happy for me because he knew what we all went through. He gave me all the support I could’ve asked for.”

Colombia won their first match against Brazil in eight years thanks to two goals from Diaz, which also moved them up to third in the South American qualification standings. Brazil is now in fifth place in the competition after losing twice in a row.

Next up for the Brazil goalie is a match against Argentina, a rivalry, while Diaz will play in Colombia’s match against Paraguay.
