Gabby George, a defender for Everton, is reportedly in talks to join Manchester United after the Red Devils triggered her release clause.

Manchester United has intensified discussions with Everton and the defender before the Women’s Super League transfer window closes on Thursday in an effort to replace Ona Batlle, who earlier this summer moved for Barcelona on a free transfer. According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils have paid the full-back’s £150,000 release clause.

The 26-year-old, one of the team’s veterans, moved to Merseyside in 2014 and has since played for Everton. She excelled last season, helping Brian Sorensen’s team finish in the top six. By becoming the first full-time professional player for the Blues in 2017, George made history. Sorensen blossomed after moving to Walton Hall Park last summer and relished the chance to play as a left wing-back in a more advanced position. Everton will suffer a setback with the departure of George after already losing seasoned center-back Rikke Sevecke this summer.
