Under-Fire Chelsea Boss Graham Potter Aims ‘Worst Pre-Season’ Dig At Tuchel

Graham Potter claims that Chelsea had their “worst pre-season” in the summer of 2022 in an apparent jab at Thomas Tuchel, his predecessor.

The Blues traveled to the US to get ready for another Premier League season, but a shaky start resulted in the dismissal of Champions League-winning coach Tuchel in September. Although Potter hasn’t performed much better since taking over Stamford Bridge, which has raised uneasy questions about his future, the man in charge in west London has claimed that Potter is still undoing the harm that those who came before him have done.

When asked about his current circumstances, which has resulted in only nine victories from his 25 games in charge, Potter told reporters: “It’s incredibly challenging. It’s the hardest job in football, and there are reasons for that, according to my comment from a few weeks ago.

“Some of the more seasoned players I spoke with said it was the worst pre-season they’d ever encountered. The tour’s organizational efficiency fell short of their expectations. I can’t say because I wasn’t there.

Potter and his expensively-assembled squad have been testing the patience of a loyal fan base this season, with those in charge aware that criticism is going to come their way. Potter added: “Supporters, rightly so, are upset because we lose at home to Southampton. Supporters care, when they are upset they make their frustrations known.

“There’s nothing I can say that will make the supporters – if they are against us – with us. The solution is that we have to win football matches. Results haven’t been good enough, 1-0 defeat to Southampton isn’t good enough, they are entitled to be angry.”
