Adefaye Lists Qualities That Make NIJ The Preferred

The provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) Mr Gbenga Adefaye has listed the unique qualities that make NIJ the preferred school amongst other institutions of Mass Communication.

Adefaye made the enumerations in the course of NIJ’s 20^th matriculation ceremony which held at its Ogba campus last Friday.

A former president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), he began with the diligent process of admission which though is through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) but also includes physical sighting and grueling interview sessions with an admission panel

“Our admission here complies fully with the JAMB moderation of all students being captured on the CAPS, the nation’s admission data base.

“At the NIJ, we are concerned and interested in the total you –your academic excellence and character.

“Our goal is to train and groom disciplined and excellent professionals who will uphold the highest ethical standards in their practice.

“Here, we equip you to go into the world as full professionals cum content producers in our new age of information and communication technology (ICT). We strive to provide a most conducive learning environment as we constantly upgrade our equipment and facilities to meet the current best practices?

The provost said the school had been a beneficiary of digitisation support of the National Communication Commission (NCC) for seamless internet connectivity and cloud hosting, that being an upgrade of an existing ICT centre.

The existing ICT centre, Adefaye informed was made possible by the Nigeria Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Shell Producing and its partners.

Still on the qualities that make NIJ the preferred, he said: “We own an internet radio, the Pen Radio which should assist in the delivery of quality hand-on training.

“We have a campus radio license of which we are looking forward to installing a transmitter to terrestrial operation

“Our lecturers are a good mix of academics and practitioners who bring fiele experience to complement the theoretical grounding”, the provost said.

Congratulating the new intakes for making it into the citadel of academic excellence, he enjoined them to, amongst others, look forward to enrolment for the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) upon the completion of their Higher National Diploma (NHD) Programmes, inter-college sports competitions as well as regular field trips.

A total of 229 new students participated in the matriculation ceremony.-
