Ten Hag Reveals Casemiro Red Card Suspension Decision

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has stated that the club would not be contesting Casemiro’s red card against Crystal Palace.

70 minutes into a Premier League match at Old Trafford, the Brazil international was sent off for grabbing Eagles midfielder Will Hughes by the throat.

After a VAR review, Casemiro was sent off, and United was miffed to see match officials present in the stadium and watching from a distance decide that a red card was the proper course of action.

Given that the verdict was a straight red, the Red Devils could have appealed, but doing so would have increased their three-match suspension.

In light of this, Ten Hag stated to reporters when asked if United had thought about appealing the decision: “Consider, yeah. Still it’s for me not the right decision but I don’t think we have a chance in a legal process. I always have to play with the players who are available and we have a squad, we have many good players in our squad who are also not playing in the starting XI and I have to do it. After a game I can’t say Casemiro is not there.”

The 30-year-old is out of the running for United’s upcoming three Premier League games, including a home game against Leicester on February 19 and a doubleheader against Leeds. On February 16, he will be eligible for the first leg of a Europa League play-off match against Barcelona.

With a trip to Elland Road scheduled for the following Saturday, United will be back in action on Wednesday when they face Leeds.

Ten Hag’s team will be aiming to close the eight-point gap between them and league-leading Arsenal.
