Kanu Praises Soludo’s Appeal For Release

Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has praised Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, for advocating for his release.

Aloy Ejimakor, one of Kanu’s attorneys, claimed that when the IPOB leader visited him on Monday to express his gratitude, he also confessed that his nourishment and medical care had been subpar.

“UPDATE: I just concluded a visitation with #MNK. He directed me to publicly convey his appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the political courage he displayed by demanding his unconditional release. On a sad note, he told me that his nutrition & medicals remain erratic,” Ejimakor tweeted.

Kanu, who has been held captive since 2021, had been demanded to be released by Soludo.

On Thursday, October 13, 2022, Kanu was freed and released by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which ruled that his abduction from Kenya to Nigeria was illegal and unconstitutional. The court also overturned all of the terrorism-related charges that the FG had brought against Kanu.

The Federal Government violated all national and international laws when it forcibly returned Kanu to Nigeria, according to the appellate court, rendering the terrorism allegations against him ineffective and illegal.

In the meantime, the Federal Government quickly responded to Kanu’s discharge by stating that he had just been discharged and had not been found not guilty through Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Following this, the Federal Government appealed the Court of Appeal’s decision clearing Kanu of all charges and releasing him, requesting a stay of execution.

The FG’s new lawsuit was heard by the appellate court, which then granted a stay of execution stopping the discharge of Kanu. The IPOB legal team later appealed this decision to the Supreme Court.

As of the time of filing this report, the leader of the proscribed IPOB had yet to be released from detention.
