Breaking: NPC Says It’s Still Recruiting For Census 2023 Till..

The National Population Commission (NPC) says it’s still recruiting for Census 2023 contrary to insinuations elsewhere it has stopped the exercise.

As a result, its recruitment portal had not been closed contrary to insinuations in some quarters.

The recruitment is for adhoc staff towards the 2023 population census, it said, adding that interested applicants could still access its e-recruitment portal till December 28.

These clarifications were made by the NPC Federal Commissioner representing Anambra State, Mr Chidi Ezeoke.

Mr Ezeoke spoke while providing an update that NPC on the vacancies for NPC employment at the opening of a 10-day Zonal Level Training of Principal Trainers in Awka.

The Eagle reports that this has allayed fears that the application process had since closed.

“Earlier, we announced that the recruitment portal will be closed on Dec.10. But after the board met, they decided to extend it to Dec. 28, to allow more people to register and apply, ” he said.

On the training, the commissioner said its objective was to standardise census operations through the provision of guidelines to those that the commission would be deploying to the field.

“The training will also provide clear guidelines for the field enumeration procedures for the census, robust instructions on use of census data collection and applications as well as first-hand guides for field operations.

“This training is put together to enhance the technical and managerial capacity as well as skills of the participants to teach other field functionaries for the success of the census,” Ezeoke told journalists.

NPC said the proposed sum for the conduct of the 2023 census covers post enumeration survey.

‘Nigerian needs N532.7 billion  to conduct 2023 census’

The Eagle reports that the NPC had last month, stated that it would N532.7 billion to conduct a national census in April 2023.

The Chairman of the Commission, Nasir Kwarra, stated this before members of the Senate Committee on National Population and Identity Management when he appeared for the 2023 budget defence .

According to him, the N532.7 billion would enable the NPC to re-write the history of census taking in the country, and that the NPC would do this by making the exercise accurate, credible and reliable.

It is the opinion of some that the country should show commitment to family planning as an ideal way of checkmating  dramatic population growth.
