Fresh Crisis Hits APC, Threatens Tinubu’s Campaign

Five deputy national officers of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are alleging marginalization and unfairness, which looks to have thrown the party into a new crisis.

The unhappy officials have expressed their displeasure at being left out of the National Working Committee (NWC) since the new leadership took office in March 2022.

The five deputies who have reportedly lodged complaints about their underestimation to the NWC are Bolaji Alabi Edu, deputy national legal adviser; Olufemi Akpedeyi, deputy national auditor; Jamalu Kabir, deputy national youth leader; Omorede Osifo-Marshall, deputy national treasurer; and Christopher Akpan, deputy national welfare secretary.

One of their complaints is that other five deputies—Deputy National Women Leader, Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, Deputy National Women Secretary, Festus Fuanter, Deputy National Financial Secretary, Hamma-Adama Ali Kumo, Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yakubu Murtala Ajaka—were drafted in despite their requests to be included in the NWC being rejected by the national leadership.

The unhappy deputies also objected to being ignored while the national officers, which included the deputies, received housing allowances of N50 million each.

They added that during the most recent struggle for control of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), the NWC only included their members in the PCC and excluded the other five national deputies. In addition, they assert that brand-new Lexus 570 jeeps or equivalents were gifted to all NWC members, leaving them out.
