PDP Crisis: What Wike Told Atiku In Fresh Meeting…

Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, met with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State once more in an effort to address the ongoing issue within the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Some of the duo’s top aides were present, a source with knowledge of the meeting told Theeagle.

On Thursday afternoon, the meeting took place at the Asokoro Rivers Governors residence in Abuja.

According to the source, many of people who accompanied Atiku to the meeting were unhappy with the way Wike pressed Atiku on some of the issues that were sparking the party’s problem.

According to the source, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to talk, Atiku initiated the conversation and persuaded Wike to rejoin the group so they could handle the problems together.

The presidential contender, according to him, urged Wike to resolve the conflict and argued that Nigerians needed the PDP to win the 2023 elections.

The source said: “But we were shocked the way Wike reacted. The Governor reminded Atiku about their London meeting and the agreement reached. The promise by Atiku that he was going to speak with the National Chairman Dr Iyorchia Ayu to resign.

“The promise that he (Atiku) will get back to them after a week and how he has not called them since that time.”

The Chieftain added that although the BoT members agreed that Ayu should step down, other people were pressuring him not to. This was according to Wike.

However, after hearing what Atiku had to say, Wike made a commitment to his supporters to speak with them again and consider the meeting’s outcome before making any decisions.

In the meantime, a source in the Wike camp claimed that it is challenging to come to a consensus in light of the many betrayals and unfulfilled promises that their camp has experienced.

“There is breach of trust already. The candidate is not known to keep what he says and mean what he says and it is difficult for us to believe whatever is agreed with them, ” he said.
