The federal government (FG) through the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cleared out imported tomato pastes worth over N225 million in three weeks.
NAFDAC explained that there has been an increase in imported and unregistered tomato pastes to the detriment of unsuspecting consumers or the general public.
According to ThisDay, the Director of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, and Chairman of Federal Task Force, NAFDAC, Kingsley Ejiofor, disclosed that thorough vigilance revealed that certain stores, supermarkets, and community provision shops throughout Lagos banned illegally imported, unlicensed canned tomato pastes.

In three weeks, he claimed, the agency had removed more than 3,000 cartons of imported, unregistered tomato paste from Lagos and the surrounding area, totaling more than N225 million.
NAFDAC stressed that it would not pardon anyone who attempted to undermine the government’s efforts to protect the food safety of the country.
In his words, “In an attempt to mop out foreign and registered products in the country after regular surveillance in some selected supermarkets, we found out that there was an increase of these products in the country.”
