World Bank Provides S200m To Support IDEAS in Nigeria

World Bank noted for its support of member countries, is providing a whopping S200m for its IDEAS project in Nigeria.

The said S200 million will go to each of the participating states in the country.

Already the project has been inaugurated by the federal government with the hope that it would address the identified problems.

Amidst the inauguration was the holding of a workshop by the Federal Ministry of Education, with the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, sayying that the successful implementation of the IDEAS Project would help the Nigerian economy to grow.

The workshop, held at the Banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja and participants were monitoring and evaluation officers in the education sector.

IDEAS is the acronym for Innovation Development and Effectiveness in Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) which the World Bank uses to target problems facing the nation’s education sector.

One of its four components is to enhance the capacity of the Nigerian skills development system to produce relevant skills for the formal and informal sectors.

This it would do by providing grant for the rehabilitation and upgrading of Federal and State Technical Colleges to transform their operational models into public private partnerships.

In the scheme, the World Bank hopes industry partners would play prominent role in institutional governance, management and planning, training and service delivery.

The second component will deliver a comprehensive capacity development intervention package for the improvement and modernisation of informal apprenticeships to selected informal sector clusters.

The third component will improve the availability of appropriately skilled and competent technical teachers and instructors in the skills development space throughout the country, including teaching staff of private skills development institutions, starting with teaching staff in technical colleges.

The fourth component will rolling-out Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework reform, which involves curriculum development and revision based on National Occupational Standard, and training and certification of assessors and trainers.

Adamu, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Andrew Adejoh, said the training would enhance their capacity of participants to effectively carry out their assigned duties.
