Nigeria has emerged top in the men’s heavyweight category as Abdulazeez Ibrahim made it a clean sweep of gold medals for Team Nigeria in the Para Powerlifting event on Tuesday at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
With a lift of 220kg, Abdulazeez dominated the heavyweight category of para powerlifting.
He amassed a total of 191.9 points despite failing his attempt at lifting 221kg, among a field of 10 contestants.
Malaysia’s Yee Khie Jong won the silver medal with a lift of 188.7kg while India’s Sachin Chandhary won bronze with a 181.0kg effort.
The Nigerian gold medallist won the heavyweight title in Glasgow four years ago.
At the ongoing Games, Nigeria has so far won eight medals; four silver and four gold.
Nigeria is currently ninth on the medals table.
