Air Peace has suspended flights to Johannesburg, South Africa due to the ongoing forex scarcity and high cost of fuel.
The airline claimed in a statement yesterday that it had to discontinue the service because of the challenging conditions the aviation industry was going through with rising Jet A1 fuel prices, a lack of foreign currency, and a holdup in the issue of visas for South African travelers.
“We hereby inform the flying public that effective from August 22, 2022, our Johannesburg flights operations will be suspended till 8 October, 2022.
“This development is regretted but has become inevitable due to the delayed issuance of South African visas to travelers, worsening forex crunch, and the cost of aviation fuel as well as its scarcity.
“Passengers with future flight itineraries who wish to join non-affected operational flights should be accommodated at no additional cost. Passengers seeking refunds may also apply,” the airline said.
One of the three international flights that Air Peace offers is to Johannesburg. China and Dubai are the others.
South Africa Airways is now the only airline with direct flights on the lucrative Lagos-Johannesburg route following the suspension of the Johannesburg route.
