Sad Sallah In Katsina, Buhari Sends Words Of Consolation
It is sad Sallah in Katsina, the Mai’aduwa Local Government Area of Katsina, and President Muhammadu Buhari has already sent his words of consolation.
There, a boat ferrying people back after the Sallah, had capsized, with many killed.
President Muhammadu Buhari has already expressed grief over the matter, warning operators against the use of rickety boats.
In a statement by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, on Friday in Abuja, Buhari said he was extremely pained by the incident.
The boat was carrying mostly children returning from Sallah celebrations.
He said: “My thoughts are with the bereaved families.
“Right now, rescue operations by the state government and National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, are ongoing at the site of the tragedy, hoping to rescue missing passengers.
“NIWA has been directed to provide more life jackets to the communities in the areas. I pray for the repose of the deceased and for the safety of everyone on board.”
The issue of boats capsizing have become rampant in the country.
Usually, there had been allegations of rickety boats being used, or overloading for which reason, the authorities had usually warned against such a practice,
It is also alleged that sometimes, the operators encourage overloading of boats for the financial gain, as well as the absence or inadequacy of life jackets.
