Rosemary Peter, Widow of the late Emmanuel Peter Udokang, who died in controversial circumstances on September 10, 2021, has said that she holds the management of Calabar Kitchen responsible for the death of her husband.
Mr Udokang who had been with the company located on Allen Avenue, Ikeja Lagos, almost all his working life, reportedly died in their premises after receiving a yet to be identified female guest.
But reacting to the tragedy in an interview with The Eagle, the widow, Rosemary said she was holding the employers responsible.
Speaking in pidgin English, she said she dated the late Udokang for about three years before they eventually got married in 2004, explaining that the husband had been working with Calabar Kitchen before their eventual marriage.
On why she was suspecting foul play, she listed a number of things, including the manner they hid the news from her initially, and the unwillingness of the employers to actually find out or tell them what killed her husband. She spoke in a mixture of good English and broken; excerpts
Her words:
My dear sister, I meet am (her husband) there before I marry am.
We date ourselves like two to three years before we marry. My first son is 16 years now. 2004 December we marry.
On whether she knows the lady that allegedly came to visit her late husband.
That Sunday, the step brother show me the Picture of the lady, I never never see that kind woman for my life before. I no know where they
see their self. I no know o. They show me for phone. why they even let am go?
Are you missing him?
Aah, se na that one you wan ask me? Everything, I no know how I go take start.
Everything. E no tell me, when (before) he want to die, to tell me say see where I keep money.
Many things, I no fit count. Many things, I no know.
I miss (him) a lot. Even my mama and papa die, even better.
Person wey stay with you, care for you, give you everything, just give up for working place, without telling you anything. I no know how I go take start to count, my dear sister, I don’t know.
I miss him for many things. I don know
What about the children?
Aahah!. they are suffering now. No be una even bring food for me yesterday? Me I no even know, …
The business wey I dey do, no dey move. Na him (late husband) be everything for me.
I no know where to start from now. I no want to count all that one my dear.
Sebi I use to tell you now? Many things. Many thing, every thing, na him be everything for me
Do you suspect foul play from his work place?
When e die na him I suspect them. I no suspect them before. (it is) their action that show me that them know wetin kill him. Why?
After he die, they seize him phone, him bag, by one of their staff…
E (Calabar Kitchen propritress) dey call am say na him son. If the woman love him sebi, e suppose to find out wetin kill him son?
And e dey call am say na him son. E no suppose to rush him to village? E suppose to go find money and go test him and know wetin kill him?
Se they see him take taking it? And even when I see that girl for phone, the girl say e no see am taking anything.
Did you speak with the girl that allegedly came to visit your husband?
Ehn, they ask the girl question. The girl say him no see am taking anything, and e did not sleep with her.
So, wetin they come pack condoms and pack this thing (drugs) accusing him?

Do you think the so-called girl may have come to look for employment, as some people have alleged?
I don know. …So na Calabar kitchen I suspect.
They no even care for me. They no even ask how my children dem dey chop, they no even send. So, that is why I suspect them. They sieze him phone, them seize him bag.
