How Four Gallant Police Officers Paid The Supreme Price

Details have emerged how four gallant police officers paid the supreme price, during exchange of fire with bandits in Kaduna.

The four were in the convoy of the Police Mobile Force – 9 Squadron, Kano, but were however attacked on their way back to their base in Kano after completing a special duty.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba said in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, officers, attached to Operation Puff Adder were deployed to Niger State in the sustained operation to reclaim public space.

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr Mohammed Adamu, has since commended the officers for successfully repelling the attack, the causalities notwithstanding.

“Contrary to unconfirmed reports in some sections of the media, stating that 18 officers were kidnapped, only 16 were attacked in the ambush.

“The officers successfully repelled the attack accordingly and neutralised the bandits in their tens while many others scampered into the bush with gun shot injuries.

“Regrettably, four of the Officers paid the supreme price during the exchange of gun fire between the Police and the bandits while an officer is still missing,” he said.

According to the cops spokesman, the remaining 11 officers led by their Unit Commander successfully recovered the bodies and firearms of their fallen colleagues.

He said efforts were being intensified to rescue the officer still missing.

He reiterated the IG’s pledge of his men, not being deterred in the battle to containing the bandits, particularly, and to ensure peaceful environment in the state.

The Eagle reports another related development in which the Kaduna State Government said bandits had killed an 80-year-old woman and four other people in separate attacks in parts of the state.

Mr Samuel Aruwan, the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs made this known in a statement today.

He added the old woman was killed when the bandits attacked Sharu village in Igabi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state where they raided several homes.
