Churches Closed, Roads Deserted As Soldiers Take Over Osogbo

Churches suspended services in Osogbo on Sunday as residents of the state stayed indoors, in compliance to the curfew imposed by the state government on Saturday.

The Eagle Correspondent observed that roads were deserted as vehicular movements and human movements were restricted by the curfew.

Soldiers were seen enforcing the curfew order at the popular Olaiya junction in Osogbo, and its adjoining roads, making it impossible for vehicles and humans to pass through their check points.

Commercial activities were totally grounded, as no shop or business center was open for operation, but some residents were seen going about on foot, taking the inter-streets to avoid the soldiers.

Some defiant commercial motorcyclists were also seen operating and conveying passengers, but avoiding the routes and checkpoints controlled and occupied by the soldiers.

Some residents that were out and observing ongoing events, meters away from the soldiers, were, however, heard saying the soldiers had earlier arrested some people who were caught flouting the curfew and were moving about.

Recall that the state government had issued a new 24 hours/indefinite curfew, Saturday afternoon, following the continuous looting and vandalism carried out in the state by hoodlums and residents, under the pretext of EndSARS protest.
