Hurray, All Classes In Schools Can Now Resume But –Commissioner

Hurray that all classes In Lagos schools have now been permitted to resume normal academic activities, but there is a condition.

So, the hurray is that the resumption permission is coming after several months of a lockdown, followed by desperation of school administrators who have lost so much revenue.

However the Lagos State Government which has approved the resumption of all classes in pre-primary, primary, and schools is also cautious of repercussions should schools refuse to follow guidelies.

As  a result, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, who announced this in a statement on Monday, added that the Office of Education Quality Assurance must clear schools before hand.

She said the remaining classes in both public and private schools in the state can resume from Monday, 19th of October, 2020, advising school owners and managers to do the needful.

 “The physical resumption which is for 2020/2021 academic session will now include pupils in pre-primary i.e, daycare, kindergarten and nursery schools.

“All public and private schools are strongly advised to put safety first by adhering to the COVID-19 safety protocols and hygiene guidelines as instructed by the State Government through the Ministry of Education.

“The Office of Education Quality Assurance will continue to monitor and evaluate schools preparedness. The necessary resumption protocols must be adhered to and cleared “satisfactory” by the OEQA.”

In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, it is also hurray with a but, as the FCTA has announced a two-day intra-action review workshop in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization, WHO.

Acting Secretary, FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat HHSS, Dr. Mohammed Kawu, who disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja said “the intra-action review is critical at this point to enable relevant stakeholders collectively review the current response approach so as to identify challenges, adopt best practices and re-strategize for improved response”.

The hurray in Plateau also comes with a condition. The government directs public and private schools in the state not to exceed 20 students in a class in compliance with social distancing protocol of COVID-19.

The Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) Executive Chairman, Prof. Matthew Sule, said that before the OVID-19 pandemic, UNESCO standard was 40 to 45 students to a teacher in a class.

””For the nursery section in the past, we used to have 25 pupils, but the number has been reduced by the state government to 10 or maximum of 15 pupils to a teacher.

”The reduction is aimed at ensuring that the children are well-spaced to avoid direct contact and the spread of the deadly disease,” he said.
