JAMB Rolls Out Dos And Don’ts To CBT Centres, Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rolled out a list of dos and don’ts to centres where it conducts Computer Based Tests (CBT).

The regulations were a major point of a meeting it held with agents recently,  which was addressed by the board’s registrar, Prof. Is-haq Olarewaju Oloyede.

Though majorly subsisting rules, the board had to reiterate them to forestall unexpected consequences in the upcoming examinations.

For example, the board asserted that every CBT Centre must have capacity to hold 4 examination sessions per day, the fourth session being for the purpose of reserve session for rescue services

Similarly, all CCTV Systems must be wired, with the cameras covering all areas about examination, including the verification area, Holding room, walk ways (if any) as well as examination hall.

Other areas to be covered by the CCTV, according to the directives are Server room as well as Entrance & exit doors, while Holding Rooms, which must be adequately sized,  must be in good proximity to the examination hall.

It ruled against partners using their CBT centres as multipurpose halls, but that such facilities so designated must be used exclusively and maintained as such.

“All centres must be within MTN or AIRTEL network coverage. All Centre networks must be powered by Switches. No hubs are allowed and Centres are directed to use static IP addresses rather than Dynamic IP Addressing”, the board said

As a way of guaranteeing the comfort of candidates, JAMB has also reiterated that rhere must be  availability of conveniences both within the examination halls and waiting areas, adding that there  must be no flying cables.

In terms of equipment needed for the conduct, the board insists that a Minimum 15” flat screen Computer monitor for desktop or 17” for laptop “would be needed for the examination, with a minimum of 2GB RAM for all computers. All Computers must be connected to a computer server with capacity to carry 275 systems concurrently”.

In the same vein, parents and guardians in the habit of escorting their wards may to the exam venues may not however be allowed to do so this time around as JAMB has ruled that no candidate would be accompanied into the registration area or examination hall.

According to the registrar, the board had chosen 13 January to 17 February, 2020, for its Mock Registration  simultaneously , and 14 March to 4 April, 2020 for the UTME Examination towards the 2020 examination year.
